Soroptimist International
Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International is an international organization for business and professional women who volunteer in their communities benefitting women and girls.
Almost 90,000 Soroptimists strong in 124 countries and territories world-wide contribute their time, effort and financial support to community-based, national and international projects.
By helping women achieve economic and political equality, Soroptimists save lives and ensure the quality of life in so many countries across the world.
A Global Vision
Soroptimists are women who use the special expertise and management skills developed in their business careers to advance the status of women to make the world a better place. Membership offers the opportunity to work with like-minded women throughout the world for human rights, equality and peace.
Soroptimists seek not only to help the victims of social inequalities and human rights abuses but also to address the social, environmental and economic factors that are root causes. They research, discuss and carefully formulate positions on major issues of global concern.
Soroptimists have the opportunity to meet and work with others from many parts of the world. Their aim is to achieve their objectives through international goodwill and friendship. There are serios issues to be addressed and much work must be done. But through working together with a common purpose, much can be achieved.
Soroptimist International serves as a global voice for women, assisting women in war-torn countries like Bosnia and Rwanda, and enhances world peace and understanding at every turn along the way.
For example, Soroptimist International provided monetary assistance to the tsunami relieft effort in Indonesia; to El Chaco, Ecuador’s rebuilding of their communities farming infrastructure following an earthquake; to Hurricane Katrina victims along the devastated Gulf Coast; and to women’s centers all over New York City after 9-11 — just to name a few.
Soroptimist International also provides outstanding opportunities for leadership development for women at all levels of the organization.
